Detailed information about golf courses

Lotus Valley Golf Resort – 18 holes, par 72 (7015 yards)
(only Gary Player’s course in Thailand is excellent)
Lotus Valley Golf Resort is located east of Bangkok, approximately 50 minutes from Suvarnabhumi International Airport. Formerly World Trade Golf and Sports Club, Lotus Valley Golf Resort is one of the few golf courses in Asia designed by Gary Player. The famous South African has created a balance between golf challenge and modern golf course construction methods and quality. The golf course has two conventional nine-hole loops that add up to a championship length of 6,955 yards from the top and a par 72.
Each cup presents an individual challenge and offers either an easy path to the green for par or a riskier route for a chance at birdie. Water comes into play at every cup to some extent or another. True to Player’s style and leaning toward traditional Scottish design, the greens are surrounded by narrow fairways and edges.

Riverdale Golf Club – 18 holes, par 72 (7,006 yards)
(premium course with excellent greens and hole layout)
Designed by Jonathan Morrow and Al Tikkanen and like Red Mountain, Phuket’s other landmark golf course, Riverdale Golf Club is destined to become one of Bangkok’s most famous golf courses. Riverdale may not look like the most challenging golf course you’ve ever seen at first glance. However, it has a surprise in store for golfers.
The landscape includes several large lakes that have been drained to create the hills surrounding the golf course and framing most of the holes. Beyond the perimeter, however, there is not much to see, as it is mainly dominated by factories and small villages. But once you tee off on the gently sloping opening shot, the considerable challenges and charm of these manicured fairways will reveal themselves.

The Royal Gems Golf City (Dream Arena Course) – 18 holes, par 71 (6,689 yards)
(Augusta comes to Bangkok with Asia’s first replica course)
Royal Gems Golf City is Asia’s first replica course, combining nine of the world’s best holes with the back nine of Augusta National. The course designers have created the necessary extreme challenges and elevation changes on what was once flat farmland just outside Bangkok.
The first step can take you not only to holes you’ve never played, but to holes you’ve always wanted to play. Imagine teeing off at Oakmont’s #3 with the famous church pew bunkers on the left. Then head to Royal Gems City #2—a replica of the narrow fairway portion of Bay Hill Florida, curving around the water on the sixth par 5—bringing a risk-reward situation with an emphasis on risk.

Thai Country Club – 18 holes, par 72 (7,151 yards)
(This prestigious club has hosted PGA victories by Tiger Woods and Vijay Singh.)
Thai Country Club is a prestigious members’ course managed by Peninsula Hotels. The Thai district is one of the best in Bangkok, setting the standard for service excellence. Designed to USPGA standards by Denis Griffiths, the course opened in December 1996. The design is suitable for everyday players, but also offers tough challenges for major international and PGA tournaments.
The 7,157-yard course was the venue for the 1997 Asian Honda Classic, where Tiger Woods cruised to a comfortable 10-stroke victory after shooting a final-round 68 for a sub-par 20, totaling 268 for the Championship. A year later, the second round of the 1998 Johnnie Walker Super Tour was also played in ideal conditions at the Thai Country Club, won in style by Vijay Singh, who recorded a magnificent score of 66 – two strokes ahead of Ernie Els and Jesper Parnevik. More recently, Thai Country Club hosted the Volvo Masters in 2007 and 2008.
As expected, the Thai golf course is well maintained throughout the year, has great variety from hole to hole and an abundance of water hazards and sand bunkers. With impeccable presentation and conditions, along with its strong and classic parkland layout, Thai Country Club is regularly voted one of the top five courses in Asia. Thai Country Club has a layout that requires good course management. It is hard to imagine that the course was originally flat, especially when you look over the pleasant mounds of earth, contoured fairway sections, and often elevated green sections. The bunkers in the fairway and green sections are superb, almost like a work of art. Any ball that deviates from the tee shot will usually be found, but it is also likely to leave you tense, making the next shots more difficult.

Suwan Golf & Country Club – 18 holes (par 72) 7125 yards
(top course and venue for the 2010 Asian Tour International & 2011 Thailand Open)
Suwan Golf & Country Club is located in the countryside west of Bangkok among villages that add to the uniqueness of the golf course. It is surrounded by fruit orchards, rice fields, palm trees, and lotus ponds, giving Suwan Golf a tropical Thai feel that is appreciated by golf professionals and casual players alike. Major General Weerayudth Phetbuasak, still active in the Thai army, was brought in by Suwan’s management to design this Thai masterpiece.
Imported Paspalum grass is used on the fairways, while the already excellent greens were rebuilt in 2009 using the latest ultra-dwarf Bermuda grass variety, Mini-Verde. The putting surfaces are now among the best in Bangkok, rivalling even the fast speeds of championship courses such as Alpine or Thai CC.
The course has already won some of the best awards in Asia despite only being open for a few years. In 2009 and again in 2010, the Asian Tour International tournament was held at Suwan Golf & Country Club. Then, in 2011, the OneAsia circuit selected Suwan as the venue for the prestigious Thailand Open.
The hilly and challenging layout of the golf course gives each hole its own unique character. The fairways have many uneven shots, and many of the greens have bunkers. More than most other golf courses in Thailand, there are many holes with significant changes in elevation, where the fairways compete for elevation, as well as well-protected greens.
