EXCURSIONS
The history of the island of Hvar dates back to 384 BC when Greek colonists built the first island settlement in the Adriatic. The ancient city of Pharos, known today as Stari Grad, was the capital of the island, which now boasts six UNESCO World Heritage Sites. As expected, there are many secrets to discover on the island. Whether you opt for land or water activities, your exploration will begin at The Club, where the team of experts will create an experience tailored to your desires!
Water activities
Whether you are a fan of kayaking, diving, rafting, or sailing, Croatia is a paradise for those looking to explore the Adriatic Sea. Motorboat trips to nearby islands, snorkeling, paddleboarding, windsurfing, and kitesurfing are some of the most popular water activities on the Adriatic coast.
Mountain hiking
Hiking
The region is ideal for hiking, with many trails connecting the southern and northern parts of the island through olive groves, lavender fields, and vineyards. A popular climb is to Hvar Fortress, which offers stunning views of the town and the sea. This 16th-century Spanish fortress watches over the town of Hvar and the harbor from its elevated position.
Cultural and historical sites
The Stari Grad Plain is the best-preserved system of ancient Greek field architecture in the Mediterranean. This UNESCO World Heritage Site, which is the largest and most fertile field in the Adriatic islands, covers 6 kilometers and has been virtually intact for over 24 centuries. Enjoy wine tastings at a local tavern, paired with local dishes harvested directly from the plain, or visit the old shepherds’ village of Humac, which is a living cultural monument, full of picturesque ruins and small stone houses. Also popular is the nearby Grapčeva Cave, which abounds in stalactites and stalagmites and is home to the most prehistoric drawing found in Europe dating back to 4,000 BC.
Island Festivities
The island of Hvar comes alive with dozens of festivals throughout the year. Particularly popular is the Hvar Summer Festival, which attracts top names from the world of classical music with daily events in exquisite locations. The Lavender Festival in Velo Grablje, on the other hand, is known as Croatia’s most aromatic festival and is an iconic event in the Hvar tourist calendar. While Maslinica Bay is a picture of peace, the party paradise of Hvar Town is only 15 minutes away. For nightlife lovers, Hvar Town’s clubs are lively until the early hours of the morning and boast top international DJs from around the world. The biggest event is the Ultra Beach party, which brings thousands of electronic music enthusiasts from around the world to Hvar Town every summer.
Maslina Resort is open from March 1 to October 31.
